Begin Again
Early in our marriage, unsure of how it really began, somehow my husband and I came up with the concept of “starting over.”
Basically, it means putting aside the conflict, frustration or whatever harshness just occurred and moving forward with a fresh start - almost as if it never happened. Without rehashing it all and trying to make sense of it.
One of us asks the other, “Ready to start over?”
Although it sometimes feels a little like sweeping things under the rug, it generally works for us.
I believe, more times than not, it’s about forgiveness. Choosing to forgive ourselves, and one another. Giving ourselves and each other some grace.
Who doesn’t need that?
“Starting over” is a concept that can be applied to many things, including any potential goals, intentions or new year resolutions.
If some of your aspirations are the same as years past, it’s okay. Some things take time.
Show yourself some compassion. Give yourself grace. Forgive yourself.
Stay with it. Don’t give up unless, of course, it’s time to let it go.
As the new year begins I, once again, started reading the “Jesus Calling” book. It was given to me a few years after it was written.
I have read it just about everyday, year after year since then.
Now, in this new year I am starting over with it again.
The thing that just sank in - recently and shortly after deciding to focus more on “peace” in the new year - is that this whole book is about enjoying peace in His presence.
After reading the same book for over 15 years, it’s no wonder I feel called to focus on this.
Being present, in the moment, with our creator is the very thing that can breathe new life in us renewing our hearts, minds and souls to forgive, to rejoice and to be at peace - no matter what.
While my morning devotional begins with scripture, “Jesus Calling” has been a wonderful companion on my journey. I plan to use it in the “Tuesday at Two” series I’m offering again this year.
Do you want more peace in your life?
Wow…
