Sea And Be
Anticipating a family gathering and celebration at the beach, my brother-in-law shared how he was looking forward to staring at the ocean.
My brother-in-law is a funny guy with a big heart and has adapted well into our Italian family who uses pizza for bread, among many other interesting ways of doing things.
When he mentioned “staring at the ocean”, I suspect he was being funny and very serious at the same time.
This made me think about how the beach is a destination for so many and for such different reasons.
Years ago, when our children were young, we traveled with another family to spend time together at the beach. After all the planning, packing and pit stops it takes for a trip like this, we arrived.
As the kids settled in to playing and I began to unwind and relax, my friend asked, “So what do you all want to do now?”
Totally caught off guard, I thought to myself, “We are doing it.”
Our family trips to the beach had always been just that. Once we arrived, we were doing what we came to do. Be at the beach.
When I was younger it was about getting a good tan. Now, I could spend all morning on the covered balcony sipping coffee and enjoying the view.
This brings me back to the idea of “staring at the ocean”. I look forward to that too.
For me, it’s therapeutic and calming. It puts things in perspective and reminds me of where I fit in this big world. It invites me to keep riding the waves of this lifetime and gives me a glimpse into eternity. It encourages me to give thanks and praise and fills me with gratitude and a knowing that everything is going to be okay.
Wow . . .
“It’s a way to shore things up.”
Here’s to more WOW Moments!
