A Lesson Learned
Today I am thinking about all the students and teachers who will be going back to school soon. I think about all the lessons that will be taught and learned – especially the unplanned ones.
The lessons that seem to magically unfold because the student is ready and the teacher appears.
Lessons about life.
The ones that stay with you.
Lessons that really matter.
I often reflect on a lesson that I learned in the second grade. I was in Catholic School at the time.
I was beginning to understand that we have an all knowing, all powerful and loving God.
And so, one day I asked my teacher, “If God knows everything and He already knows what I will get on my spelling test, why does it matter if I study?”
Then the answer came.
The answer that I still remember.
The one that taught me that while God loves us and is intimately involved in our lives, we have free will and our actions matter.
“God knows what you will get on your spelling test,” she said. “Because He also knows if you will study for it.”
Wow . . .
“Our actions matter.”
Here’s to more WOW Moments!
