Missing Peace

Headed out for a walk I debated about which path to take. Once I got started, there would be other points along the way where I would decide which way to go.

I like to change it up.

This time I decided to make a U-turn to cross the street and head back on the other side. When I did, I saw a credit card lying on the side of the road.

Then I saw another one, and another and a man’s license and so much more.

There, scattered along the side of the road, right where I randomly decided to turn around was the insides of a wallet. There was also a metal contraption that once held all these cards, receipts and notes together.

As I picked up each piece, I reflected on the times the men in my life have lost their wallets. I remembered the angst that it caused and I wondered what the people did when they found them.

When I finished picking up all the pieces, I called his place of employment and started walking towards it. It was the fire station that I had just passed.

When he came to the phone, I told him I had his wallet and asked if he was missing his.

“Apparently so,” he responded.

By now I was standing outside the station and he came out to meet me.

He couldn’t have been more gracious and thanked me repeatedly.

Somehow returning this to him gave me a sense of peace with the past lost wallets in my world.

It felt good to help the guy out.

And, to think he hadn’t realized it was missing.

Wow . . .

“Sometimes we don’t know what we are missing until we receive it.”

Here’s to more WOW Moments!
