Price to Pay

I stopped by a grocery store to pick up a couple of items. It was one where I don’t usually shop.

The first item I picked up, I admit, was somewhat on impulse.

It was right there, in the front of the store, and seemed to call out to me. And, it was something I had considered getting at one time.

I checked the price and found there wasn’t one. Still, I placed it in the cart.

Next, while looking for what I came to buy, I saw a really good price for another item. In the cart it went.

Then, when I finally found the item on my list, I noticed that similar items on either side of it were labeled with prices. The one I wanted, which I knew was considerably more, was not labeled with a price.

Interesting, I thought. At first glance, one could easily think that the price would be similar to the ones beside it.

When I got to the register, I was curious about my impulse item. I asked about the price and was shocked at the answer. That’s when I decided I didn’t need or want it.

After leaving the store, I did some mental math. I realized that the really good priced item I thought I got wasn’t a really good price after all.

I looked at my receipt and saw that it rang up for an amount that was not posted anywhere on or near the item. The price I saw was actually for another item. It was very misleading.

I went back to the store to make my return and share my concerns.

How is it that the few items I picked up all had questionable pricing practices?

The more I thought about my experience, the more I thought about how deliberate it all seemed to be.

That’s not good.

Our world is such that we can easily be lured into choices and actions that we may not otherwise make or take.

That’s really not good.

The good news is, we have a choice.

Always.

Wow . . .

Here’s to more WOW Moments!
