Work Things Out
When I was in college I had a professor who seemed full of life, very energetic, always positive and perky. In fact his name was Dr. Purkey – Dr. William Watson Purkey.
I remember taking note of his inspiring expressions and memorable quotes.
Years later while browsing in a store with my husband, I saw a piece of art with a quote on it that sounded just like one of his. I immediately took it off the shelf to purchase it.
It still hangs in our home today.
Recently I glanced at it and the first line seemed to jump off the print to grab my attention.
“Work like you don’t need the money.”
These words have meant different things to me over the course of my life. Now, as I continue to embrace my new chapter, I’m pondering these words in a new way.
This also prompted me to look up my former professor. I found that he passed about a year ago at the age of 94.
Below is the quote that he is credited with writing.
You’ve gotta dance like nobody’s watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.
Rest in peace, Dr. Purkey.
Wow . . .
“It pays to live well.”
