You Are Invited

The hair salon that I go to opened up a second location which I recently went to for the first time.

I told my stylist how nice I thought it was and then she shared her feelings about it with me.

“It’s so nice”, she said. “Sometimes I don’t feel like I belong here.”

I was very quick to respond saying that she absolutely belonged there. I went on to say that maybe the new establishment was built just so she would know it.

Soon afterwards, I had 40 minutes to sit with myself in the new and beautiful space, pondering this idea of “where we belong”.

I could definitely relate to what she was saying. In fact, years ago I challenged myself to walk into a high-end store just to overcome this type of thinking.

As a sat and reflected on this more, I questioned whether this way of thinking was active in my life right now.

Are there some “nice” places that I avoid because I don’t believe I belong there.

Or, are there some “not so nice” places that I find myself in where I don’t feel I belong.

I believe that sometimes we are called to places we may never have chosen for ourselves. While there may be some discomfort in being there, maybe we are being stretched to do or have more than we would otherwise. Or maybe we are there, not for ourselves, but for others.

In any situation, for me, it’s important to stay true to who I AM.

Ironically, the next day the following verse showed up for me.

“Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. “ Romans 8:9

Belonging to Him is what matters most to me.

Maybe this is about reminding myself and others too, that we are worthy and called to follow Him, no matter where He leads us.

Wow . . .

“You are invited to belong.”

Here’s to more WOW Moments!
