I Understand

Having a very familiar and somewhat intense conversation with my husband he said, “Sometimes I wish you would just say, ‘I understand’.

“That’s it?” I thought.

That’s all I need to say in these situations?

Just these two words?

Somehow it felt too easy.

I really wasn’t sure if it would work.

Until, that is, I tried it.

Since that request, I have said it several times.

It works. Every time.

After almost 28 years of marriage, I’m just figuring this out?

As I pondered this phenomenon, I was reminded of a line from the Prayer of St. Francis – a prayer that so resonates with me.

“Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek . . .
to be understood as to understand.”

The truth is, I really do understand.

And, when I don’t, I choose to trust God and that He is working out His plan.

Wow . . .

“Stay close to Him.”

Here’s to more WOW Moments!
