Paying Attention
I invited a sales rep into my home to get a quote for some future work.
We got into a side conversation, when he saw a book I am reading.
He told me about another book his wife recently discovered. He shared how she bought a copy for her mother, her sister and for someone else.
“Did she buy one for herself?” I asked.
He wasn’t sure if she did or not.
That’s when I got an idea. It was a nudge. An impulse. It felt like Divine direction.
The idea was to give her a copy of my book - the one I wrote.
Immediately after getting the idea, almost simultaneously, the resistance flooded in. For the next couple of seconds my mind was filled with opposing thoughts including the ones below.
“That’s a dumb idea.”
“Don’t do it now - maybe later.”
“She might not like your book.”
“You might come across as being pushy.”
“What are you trying to do here?”
The truth is, the only thing I was trying to do was to listen and obey.
I believe we are often inspired with action steps that, for whatever reason, we never take.
Part of living fully, for me, is paying attention and acting accordingly.
“May I give you something to give your wife?” I asked.
When he said “Sure”, I told him I’d be right back.
As I sat in my office signing her book, I smiled as I wrote the words I’ve said and written many times before.
“Trust and act on the wisdom you receive. “
Reflecting on this experience, I am grateful for the reminder. I know it’s not about the outcome or about what happens next. What matters most is that I chose to listen and obey.
I want to do this even more in my life.
How about you?
Wow . . .
“Trust and act on the wisdom you receive.”
Here’s to more WOW Moments!
