The Storm

I’ve been reflecting on the storm – the storm that occurred while Jesus was asleep, on a cushion, in the boat, with his disciples.

When they woke him and asked, “Do you not care that we are perishing?” Mark 4:38

Jesus rebuked the wind and commanded the sea by saying, “Quiet! Be still!” Mark 4:39

Then, there was a great calm.

One way to think about this passage is to remember that Jesus is in the boat with us.

Always.

He is with us wherever we go, because he lives in us.

Maybe he has fallen asleep.

Maybe this is about us waking him up to have our own awakening.

Unlike the frenzy we may experience at the grocery store with bread flying off the shelves before a storm or the panic in more serious situations, may we remember the Bread of Life. The One who truly sustains us. Our inmost calm.

There will be more storms. They will come in different shapes and sizes. Some will be horrendous and unfathomable.

Let us heed the warning and prepare ourselves the best we can.

Once the storm was calm, Jesus asks the disciples,

“Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?” Mark 4:40

Wow . . .

“Our Wake-Up Call.”

Here’s to more WOW Moments!
